I had a weekend in Dublin with one of my oldest friends from school. We used to DJ together as teenagers, and he’s been one of Dublin’s regular top DJs for many years.

I retired from producing music in 2019 but still occasionally DJ if it’s a good venue/audience. A lot of local DJs would love to play here, but there is a waiting list to play there and to eat. I was a guest DJ for the night with my best mate Marquis D’Allton.

Don’t let the takeaway at the front fool you; hidden behind the colourful ribbons is Hang Dai. Inspired by Blade Runner and John Carpenter movies (with a touch of Deadwood), Hang Dai is a futuristic, retro, fun, contemporary Chinese/Asian restaurant and music bar. With a wood-fired traditional Chinese oven taking centre stage, Chinese dishes like Beijing Roast Duck and Mapo Tofu are always present. Whilst they stay true to some traditional Chinese recipes, their approach is always playful and they tend to merge various Asian cuisines using high-end local ingredients.

Even though Roast Duck and Dumplings are their main squeeze, the music and cocktails are no mere side hustle. A custom-built sound system, DJ booth and acoustically treated room mean that after dinner service DJs belt out tunes until the wee hours with a carefully constructed cocktail menu in tow.

Processing by BSS soundweb London, tuned to the venue’s space plus network throughout the building.
